Every year, the “Cours Eau Jardins” Festival attracts more visitors keen on architecture, gardens as well as people who like shows and concerts.

This is indeed what this festival is aiming at : to promote its architectural and natural heritage thanks to diverse programme throughout summer. This sixth edition promises to be full of surprises !

The programme:

Exclusive trails: The “Cours Eau Jardins” Festival will be the opportunity for visitors to discover unknown areas, sometimes unusual and amazing places.
Unique gardens: More than ever, gardens unveil new aspects and become fun and educational places. This was the idea which initiated the so-called “water gardens” with a special guided tour.
Exhibitions: come and discover the Dingue Ding Dong exhibition at the Fine Arts Museum
A wide range of activities: games, workshops, shows, poetry and concerts for the young ones and grown-ups : at the Kiosque located in Place Carnot, at the Hotel Boussard de la Chapelle, at the Bouzaize Parc.

Full price Pass: €9,50
Reduced price Pass: €6,50 for under 15 years old

This pass includes exhibitions at the Fine Arts Museum, at the Wine Museum and Beffroi, as well as the different shows at the Bouzaize Parc (educational workshop and water gardens). The pass is valid for a few days, each activity is valid one time, the Pass will be stamped for each activity.

2010 Music Day in France : 29th anniversary with a special focus on women

Music Day, also known in other countries as World Music Day, is held every year in France. This year, for its 29th anniversary, the event will put the spotlight on women… So let’s meet on Monday 21st June !

Be they music composers , opera singers, conductors, street singers, songwriters or DJs, the focus will be put on their creativity, their struggles and the deep and true nature of their music.

Since ancient times, women have always been an endless source of inspiration that has inspired the greatest melodies. Muses, singers or musicians, they take a leading part in the practice of this art. In order to pay a tribute to them, the 29th edition of Music Day in France will be focused on “music and women”.

This unifying theme will provide an opportunity for all artists, whether they are amateurs or professionals, to celebrate Music Day and women by interpreting compositions made by or for women … A large selection in prospect !

For one day and one night, French cities and towns will be swept away by all kinds of music, with concerts, free events and also the possibility of discovering amateur music players or singers in pubs and cafés.

In April:

Beaune International Thriller Film Festival, from April 8 to 11, 2010

After a stunning first edition, the second International Thriller Film Festival will be held from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 April in Beaune. For this event, many celebrities will walk on the red carpet in front of Cap Cinema.

Screenings of the world’s best thriller films and a feature film challenge will be presented. These films will be watched by a merciless and expert jury from the film industry and the international police, for everyone’s delight, from film lovers to any passers-by ! The ideal time to spend a pleasant weekend in Burgundy’s main city and enjoy a thrilling atmosphere.

The Thriller Film Festival is also an opportunity to pay tribute to celebrities from the literary world with the Roman Noir Award ( “Roman Noir” is the French equivalent for hardboiled detective fiction style) given to a French author and a foreign author.

It is finally an opportunity to pay tribute to a city. After “Paris Polar” (literally “Detective Paris”) for the first edition, this year the Festival will highlight New York dealing with the theme “Detective New York, Naked City.” Festival-goers will discover a selection of emblematic films such as Killer’s Kiss by Stanley Kubrick, 1955; The Wrong Man by Alfred Hitchcock, 1956; Detective Story by William Wyler, 1951; Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese, 1976, and many others!

Cultural Event – 12th Poetry Festival from March 8 to 21, 2010

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day (March 8th) and the World Poetry Day (March 21st), this 12^th edition of the Poetry Festival « Le Printemps des Poètes » in France will focus on the theme of women.

The inauguration evening will take place on Monday, March 8 at the Opéra Comique, with Dominique Blanc, Brigitte Fontaine and Carolyn Carlson.

Celebrated throughout France, the event will especially highlight the work of Andrée Chedid with the 2^nd Andree Chedid’s sung poem contest with Matthieu Chedid as the president of the jury. The actress Dominique Blanc will be the sponsor of the event.

An original exhibition, entitled “au fil des mots”, will present a selection of poems having a focus on the theme of hope, body and love. These poems have been reinterpreted by designers and artists who bring their own graphic layout of a short text. The set will be embroidered by women of Swaziland, sick of HIV. This work will give them an income. About thirty works will be exhibited throughout the year 2010.

November : a month dedicated to documentary films

To celebrate the Month of Documentary Film 10th edition, november is a must-attend event in France, French West Indies and abroad for documentary films.

The aim of this event is to show to an audience, that is getting larger, and make them appreciate the diversity and strength of creative documentary films by uniting many events organised by enthusiastic programmers in different locations.

Venues: libraries and media centres, cinemas, cultural and educational institutions, French cultural centres abroad…

Programme: viewings of heritage, rare or unreleased films, film previews, tributes, topics, debates and meetings with directors…

Burgundy – “Cours Eau Jardins” Festival in Beaune

This year again, the town of Beaune invites you to its « Cours Eau Jardins » festival, which was very successful the last four times and received some 8,000 visitors each year. Until 20 september 2009, festival-goers are invited to discover Beaune’s unique architectural heritage with entertainment and recreational nature discovery. Convents and monasteries, the town’s hidden gems, are the main theme of this 2009 festival.

The festival divides into three parts:

A stroll at the heart of extraordinary gardens:

A 40m²garden is dedicated to cereals and vegetables we forgot. This summer they will grow again in the garden of Bouzaize. You will lift the veil from these foodstuffs with enchanting name, which used to be the monks’ diet in the Middle Ages.

For the fifth year, Beaune shows temporary gardens designed by landscape school students from all over France. Nine different gardens were created in Lions Square with a focus on « monasteries’ gardens, history and modernity ».

Discovering Beaune’s ancient convents and monasteries:

Their doors are now opened to unveil their secrets through a special visiting itinerary, which offers you two ways of discovering this architectural heritage : a free visit and a guided tour.

Prices: €7 per person, €12 for a couple and €5 for child between 12 and 18 years old. The guided tour is free for children under 12 years old.

An eclectic programme for everyone:

A festival is also about entertainment and shows! Local and national artists will be in the streets and gardens of Beaune to bring hapiness to passersby. The programme will be very diverse : there will be concerts, theater and street art so that children and adults can enjoy special entertainments at the heart of unusual places.

Bourgogne – 7th Association Fair of Beaune

The 7^th Association Fair of Beaune is one of this month major events. It will be held during the weekend of September 5 and 6 at the Palais des Congrès of Beaune. There will be at least 80 associations presenting their activities and know-how for this occasion. This is a special opportunity to get together and find new activities to practise all year in Beaune.

These associations will be divided into different areas: culture, leisure, sport, solidarity …

What is new this year: a competition will enable visitors to win many prizes, in partnership with associations and retailers of Beaune. You will just have to fill in the questionnaire given out to you on the fair.

Throughout the weekend many activities, shows and workshops will be organised for this event, which is held by the city’s department of community life: relaxation and Tai Chi Chuan shows, choral singing with the Beaune in Burgundy choir, dance shows, rescue demo by the Red Cross Association, fishing workshop in a pond specially installed inside the Palais des Congrès for the occasion… You will be able also to play chess against the best chess players of Beaune Chess Association.

Cultural and Tourist Museum of Warping Tug Boat

Based in the previous roadmender house at the beginning of the Nivernais Canal, the Warping Tug Boat Museum is pleased to welcome you.

Five films about the history of inland water transport, navigation, the river Loire, the Nivernais Canal and tug boat will be shown. An animated scale-model presenting the different watercourses will be added to this showing.

You will discover rivers Loire, Vieille Loire, Aron and the Nivernais Canal through photographs, maps and scale-models presented in a temporary exhibition entitled: « confluence of rivers of today and tomorrow ».

Mine Museum and Glénons Mine Shaft

Based in the former administrative headquarters of “Coal Mines”, the Museum traces the history of coal and miners’ way of life (deep inside, lunch break, tragedies, entertainment). The Museum houses items, photographs, scale-models left by former miners. You will also find the directors’ office, a map room, a scale-model of the town, collections of minerals and fossils found in the subsoil, a collection of miners lamps and suggestions about worker housing.

The Glénons Mine Shaft is a mine gallery located on the site of its former activity, where you will be presented the hard working conditions of minors. This unique area, easy to access and lead by guides, shows the skills used to extract coal, support technologies, safety and working conditions.

A temporary exhibition entitled « mine gallery pithead frames: a symbol of mining heritage » aims at presenting the different types of pithead frames installed in French mines and more specifically in the town of La Machine. This exhibition shows the purpose of this particular technical object, how it works and its technological development (installation of cages by T. Hall, parachute by Machecourt or Fontaine, use of steam engine, toothed wheel machines electrification, constructions first made of wood and then metal).

Moreover, pithead frames technology is a complex element of mines. It is used both for transporting miners but also for bringing coal up or ventilation. Thus, this presentation deals with the relationship between the coal face the and the surface as well as the distribution and organization of work on mine banks in order to increase men and machines productivity.

The exhibition runs until 30 September 2009
