From October 12, 2010 to March 13, 2011 the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents MOEBIUS-TRANSE-FORME, the first major exhibition in Paris devoted to the work of Jean Giraud, more commonly known by his pseudonyms Gir and Moebius.

Undisputed master of the comic strip, inventor of extraordinary forms and a brilliant cartoonist, Moebius is an artist who goes beyond the traditional boundaries of the discipline. He developed a wide range of styles, from the detailed realism of Blueberry to the fantastical drawings of Arzach and Le Chasseur déprime. He is particularly renowned for his futuristic landscapes filled with hybrid creatures and ultrasophisticated spaceships, and which are conducive to bizarre, metaphysical musings.

Moebius has chosen the concept of metamorphosis as a central theme for this exhibition, which is the dominant leitmotiv of his comics, drawings, and film projects. the exhibition also presents his very first 3-D animated directed by the artist .

With landscapes and characters in perpetual transformation, his drawings explore the boundaries of the unconscious and reveal an imaginary and fantastic world. Through often sudden and disturbing metamorphoses of a character or a setting, Moebius reveals a world where appearances are not as stable as they may seem.

There is no more gourmet break in a day than tea time. The trend is to focus on the happy afternoon snacks of our childhood with hot chocolate, biscuits, cakes and pastries. Let’s discover French traditional afternoon tea time !

In Paris, there are many places to enjoy special moments with a combination of emotional and gourmet pleasure. For a start, let’s stop at the famous Pâtisserie des rêves. The place, which is first of all delightful for the eyes with its lovely and stylish setting, offers very special pastries: mille-feuilles à la crème pâtissière (a pastry made up of three layers of puff pastry, alternating with two layers of thick pastry cream), seasonal pies, brioche, chocolate or coffee éclairs (a long thin pastry made with light choux dough filled with a cream and topped with icing)..

Another success story is the collaboration between Ladurée and Yannick Alléno, chef at the Meurice : French croissants and pains au chocolat, with more chocolate than ever, and chocolate-flavoured baguettes. In order to taste these delicious sweet pastries let’s go to Dalí, the Meurice restaurant, or Ladurée sales outlets.

Cravings for pies ? Tartes Kluger offers a large range of pies with a mix of different flavours: Grany Smith + coconut, rhubarb + rice milk … there is surely something to suit everyone’s tastes.

In Hélène Darroze’s restaurant you will have the opportunity to enjoy Hélène’s Tea as well as cakes, scones and macaroons.

With its Austrian and German specialties, Stübli offers flavours from other places.

For a trendy afternoon snack, why not going to Colette Bar à eau (Colette’s Water Bar). The place has a large range of waters and also offers low-fat pastries, such as the 0% cheesecake, for a complete detox.

Between October 15, 2010 and January, 2011 the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris presents a large retrospective to Amercian artist Jean-Michel Basquiat for the 50th anniversary of his birth. Let’s focus on this artist who started to be famous through street art and his graffitis on the walls of the streets…

This is the first large-scale Basquiat exhibition ever in France. Of mixed Puerto Rican and Haitian descent, Basquiat was born in Brooklyn in 1960 and died of a drug overdose in New York in 1988, aged 27. Basquiat was part of the generation of graffiti artists who burst onto the New York scene in the late 1970s.

In the course of a dazzling career, his work moved from street art to painting, offering a mix of Voodoo and Biblical mythologies, comic strips, advertising and the media, African-American music and boxing heroes and assertion of his negritude. Thus he defined an underground urban counterculture at once violently anarchistic and seething with liberty and vitality.

With a hundred major pieces – paintings, drawings, objects – from numerous museums and private collections in the United States and Europe, this retrospective will allow the viewer a chronological overview of the career and the chance to assess Basquiat’s importance to art and art history in the post-80s years. It is also worth taking notice that Basquiat ended his carreer alongside Andy Warhol with whom he signed a few paintings.
