What is the point of such a festival when the contemporary eater and professionals swallow, devour, gobble up everyday and at full speed chefs and trends much more than it takes to have eaten one’s fill ?

That is precisely for these reasons that Omnivore Food Festival is more useful than ever.

For six years indeed it has followed the development of cooking by inviting renowned people of French cuisine (Michel Bras, Pierre Gagnaire, Alain Ducasse, Alain Passard, …), often for the first time by giving famous foreign chefs the opportunity to become known (Ferran Adrià, Heston Blumenthal, David Kinch…) and especially by presenting tomorrow’s and today’s great chefs of world cuisine.

The very first Impressionist Normandy Festival, is the occasion to explore the roots of one of the most important art movements of art history. This major cultural event of Summer celebrates Impressionism until September throughout the regions of Upper and Lower Normandy.

Revealing Impressionism in all its Forms

Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the exceptional cultural heritage and all the creative talent of Normandy, homeland of the Impressionist movement. Many festivities, whether directly linked to Impressionism and its time or perpetuating its avant-garde spirit, are being designed to enchant residents, summer visitors, fans and art amateurs from all corners of the world.

Painting, contemporary art, music, cinema, theatre, danse, photography, video, literature, lectures, light and sound displays, picnics in the spirit of déjeuners sur l’herbe, outdoor balls, and more: the Impressionist Normandy Festival is as rich as it is diverse. It offers a programme which is open to everyone and to all forms of artistic expression. More than 200 events in homage to Impressionism will take place in Normandy at the initiative of museums, local government councils, institutions, individuals and associations.

Heading up the festival is the much awaited exhibition, “Une ville pour l’Impressionnisme: Monet, Pissarro, Gauguin à Rouen” (“A City for Impressionism: Monet, Pissarro, Gauguin in Rouen”). The Fine Arts Museum of Rouen presents a number of outstanding works from worldwide public and private collections. Many of them are masterpieces which have never been exhibited in France.

Held at the end of the summer in Nantes and some of the neighbouring towns, “Les Rendez-vous de l’Erdre” festival is a stunning must-attend event which celebrates both jazz and sailboats.

An amazing mix of jazz and sailboats

Created 20 years ago, the festival is today one of the most amazing event in France with a focus on all jazz genres and a large range of visitors. It is one of the largest event in the nautical world.

Held along the banks of river Erdre from the town of Nort sur Erdre to Nantes through the towns of Sucé sur Erdre, La Chapelle sur Erdre and Carquefou, for four days more than 150,000 visitors will attend this festival. They will have the opportunity to enjoy 90 free concerts in good listening and comfort conditions and will be delighted to see the 150 boats, some of the most beautiful ones in the nautical heritage, which will sail along the 28kms of river Erdre.

How to play the guitar, sing in a band or making their own instruments. A program of gigs is planed and some activities are proposed to children.

Les Invités de Villeurbanne is a unique festival, the only event of its kind in France that cleverly combines – with a free access – a very chic programme with a focus on street arts, first-class concerts and a gigantic urban scenography, carried out in collaboration with the inhabitants of this city of 140,000 inhabitants.

A very special programme

For their 9th anniversary, Les Invités de Villeurbanne festival will be showing no less than 60 shows. This event is definitely a city festival where people can really go from one public place to another to enjoy the different shows. Actually, in 2010 there will be more than 20 squares, streets and public gardens which will be turned into temporary stages. Today’s most exciting top of the bill artists as well as street art companies, new rock or world music artists will perform on these stages. Who will be playing? Idéal Club from 26 000 couverts; Misérables ! from Annibal & ses éléphants; 1 789 seconds from the International Alligator Company; Fissura-Dos from Teatro Gestual de Chili; Cirkatomik; Drôles d’Oiseaux from Générik Vapeur and also Jabberwock ’s great come back by the Illustre Famille Burattini.

As for music shows, there are already artists such as Anthony Joseph, Piers Faccini, Slow Joe & the Ginger Accident, Sanseverino, Gablé, Iswhat, BLK JKS, Blood red shoes, Lucy Love, Bomba Estereo as well as Soul Jazz Orchestra.

Besides, there will be a special focus on some local artists, whose public success and shrewdness deserve a prominent place in this 2010 festival, both for music performers and street art shows (Lolo & Bébert, Les Transformateurs, Le Bus Rouge, Les Colporteurs).

A gigantic and participatory urban scenography

Another major aspect of the festival is the massive urban scenography, which will be held in the city centre. Acting as the festival’s thread, its main theme will be focused on the course of history. It will be presented under the form of a big clothes line – with huge clothes pegs – on which souvenirs, memories, photographs, t-shirts and underwear will be exhibited as well as “Sunday best” clothes as stated in a text by François Morel, on which this artistic work is based.

This gigantic scenography’s highlight is a massive team work carried out by Villeurbanne’s inhabitants and local associations. Indeed, during the festival, there will be more than one thousand t-shirts – all unique since they will include a portrait Villeurbanne’s inhabitants  – which will be hung on the big clothes line right at the heart of the city.

This year, the International Guitar Festival celebrates its 6th anniversary, which will be held for one week from next June 29 to July 6. Argentinian master guitarist Roberto Aussel, artisitic director of the festival, has invited unique musicians in Nantes.

This 6th guitar festival will present many recitals and concerts which will take place in the heart of Nantes in nice and welcoming settings, such as the city’s Fine Arts Museum and the Dukes of Britanny  Castle (Château des Duc de Bretagne), in the guise of café-concerts (i.e. café where singers entertain customers). This year, flamenco, classical guitar, early music and bossa-nova will give rythm to Nantes International Guitar Festival.

This music event, first one of the summer in Nantes and the only one of its kind in western France, is an opportunity to discover great artists like Roberto Ausse’s recital or the italian Oscar Ghiglia and his classical guitar, Andrès Ségovia’s latest student; and also unique andalusian guitarist Manolo Franco for a special flamenco night.

On Sunday at Nantes’s Dukes of Brittany Castle, a fantastic duet will be presented. One of them, Serge Goubioud, will be singing while the other one, Jean-Luc Tamby, will be playing all sorts of guitars, the lute, the theorbo, the baroque guitar, the classical guitar, … In other words, both Renaissance music and Bossa-Nova will be linked together on one single exciting stave !

As usual, the festival’s “Highlight” is also presented. This year, amazing Japanese artist Maseo Tanibe is the festival’s special guest. Besides, there will be a focus on Cuban music. Just like every year, the entry to this recital will be free subject to availability.

The festival’s closing show will present major acoustic guitar player Pierre Bensusan. A great show in perspective !
