“Les Méditerranéennes” music festival is a must-attend and major southern France summer festival. The event will be held in Leucate, between Perpignan and Narbonne, on Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August 2010.

“Les Méditerranéennes” is a nationally renowned festival, which music lovers always look forward to and attended by more than 20,000 people every year. Diversity always has been one of the festival’s guiding thread and key word. This 14th edition will live up to our expectations with an amazing, with a lot of talented artists. After 9 years in Castelnaudary, the 2010 Chapiteuf Festival moves in Carcassonne, at the heart of the town, next May 7 and 8, to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

The 23rd Tree, Plant and Fruit Festival, invite you to Saint-Jean du Gard (Gard area) for  the last weekend of November for Saint Catherine’s Day when, according to French expression, « every plant takes root ». This year, the focus will be put on the theme of Olives and Spices. This is a major event for diversity lovers. Here, no standards are imposed! It is quite the reverse, indeed diversiy stems from difference.

This event, entirely dedicated to plants, is every year a delightful occasion for both amateurs and nature lovers. It is organised in 3 stages: school days, the week before ; one day dedicated to professionals, on Friday ; finally days open to public, on Saturday and Sunday, will be an invitation to preserve traditional species and rare plants, rediscover the know-how of elder people, enjoy and share …

• Friday, November 27, from 10am to 5pm:

Speeches, debates and reflections: “Protection and dissemination of agricultural biodiversity”.

• November 28 and 29, from 9.30am to 6pm:

Collections of different plant species, workshops/debates, demos, exhibitions, film viewings and tasting sessions.

These activities will focus on plant diversity, protection of old and local plant species, farming techniques, duplication, free movement of seeds, transformation and gastronomy.

More than 150 exhibitors: specialised plant nursery people, growers, transformers, craftspeople and artists, associations dealing with the environment and small-scale farming, specialized books.

From November 10 to 14, 2009, Kawenga and the Montpellier 100% Festival will host Stimuline, an atypical concert, which appeals both to our skin and our ears.

The listeners wear audio-tactile interfaces with fifteen built-in speakers. Twenty-eight listeners are connected to a single flow commanded by Julien Clauss and Lynn Pook, who will play minimal and noisy electronic music performed right on the skin.

Fabulous and unreal, the town of Carcassonne stands on a hill surrounded with vineyards. Strongest fortress in Europe, this town is a testimony to 2000 years of history. It has two concentric enclosures of about 3 kilometres long, with 26 towers outside and 26 towers inside the fortress. The city owes much to Prosper Mérimée, Cros Mayrevieille and Viollet-le-Duc, authors of its rescue and restoration.

The Porte Narbonnaise and the Comtal Castle are the town’s most beautiful jewels. The Comtal Castle, which is really a “fortress in the fortress”, has a large collection of ancient and medieval relics that come from the town and the whole region.

The town also has beautiful houses and especially the Basilica of Saint Nazaire, a former cathedral, which amazingly combines both Romanesque and Gothic art, with many stained glass windows dating back to the 13th and 15th centuries as well as a lot of sculptures.

Originally coming from Spain, ferias area deeply rooted tradition in some town of southern France. The most famous ones are the ferias from Bayonne, Dax, Mont-de-Marsan and also Nîmes.

Ferias of Bayonne, from July 29 to August 2

The town of Bayonne would not be the same without its famous August celebrations. They start the first Wednesday evening of August at 10pm. From then on until the following Sunday, for five entire days the whole town wears white clothes with a red scarf and falls into joy and happiness. Even if people from Bayonne would never ever miss this event, many visitors come from all over the world to attend the festivities, wich are said to be the world’s most beautiful celebrations after the Rio Carnival and the San-Fermin of Pamplona Ferias in July, which inspired the Ferias of Bayonne in the 30’s.

Ferias of Dax, from August 12 to 17

For six days, the streets of the thermal town liven up to highlight the colours of the celebrations: red and white. Everyday the emphasis is put on a different theme: traditions from the Landes (southwest of France), the children’s day, bandas (kind of brass bands), music, horses and conviviality will be at the core of this celebration.
Several events are organised for the Ferias of Dax: traditional Basque sports, traditional shows, dances and bullfights.

The Madeleine Ferias in Mont-de-Marsan, from July 17 to 21

For five days, festivities and celebrations give rhythm to the town of Mont-de-Marsan. They usually officially start with the key giving ceremony by the mayor to the town’s young people. The events most worthy of interest of the traditional Madeleine Ferias are: horses cavalry, funfair, bullfights, bandas playing traditional songs from South-West France, balls and the great cow show (grand concours landais).

Ferias of Nîmes

The town of Nîmes is renowned for its ferias, which date back to 1952:
- End of May-beginning of June: Whitsun or Pentecost Ferias, better known as Ferias of Nîmes, are probably France’s most attended event with every year more than one million visitors.
- for 18th to 20th September 2009: the Grape Harvest Feria
For these festivities, bullfights are organised within the famous Arenas of Nîmes. Afterwards, people usually meet for a drink of sangria in bodegas (outdoor bars) or walk in the streets to enjoy peñas (spanish music street bands)
