In order to celebrate summer, many cultural events are organised in Paris and Ile de France. Among them, we have selected some of the music festival that will take place in July and August :

• 7th edition of the « Under the Beach » Festival (festival « sous la plage »)

For two days, on July 12 and 13, artists will perform in the André Citroën parc and on the Javel embankments (Paris XV). There will be many artistic activities, such as workshops for all ages, graphic installations and an eclectic programme. On July 12th electronic and recreational workshops, off-the-wall walks and musical cruises are planed. On July 13th, you will travel to Istambul with a Turkish ball, Musicians, DJ’s and dancers will take you to an oriental dance atmosphere, with family and friends.

• « Paris Jazz Festival », from June 6 to July 26, Paris Parc Floral

With a 15-year experience, the Paris Jazz Festival starts a new chapter of its history in the Parc Floral with a brand new team and an innovative music programming. In 2009, the festival comes with a strengthened artistic identity opened to all curiosities. Jazz and its rich musical heritage are represented here, exploring each week a new TERRITORY. This festival will also offer discovering and creation spaces : the Improv’ Glade (la Clairière des impros) and the Jardinophone. Their purpose is to offer alternative events dedicated to illustrate the bonds between music and nature.

• «  Les Pestacles », from June 3 to September 23, Paris Parc Floral

This festival, dedicated to children, offers 16 concerts on the theme of word and note game, workshop-meetings with artists, readings, discovering games as well as street entertainment to share between generations. Three new things this year : surprise Wednesdays, four unusual street shows and a choregraphic dance show that will come with the Audience Prize.

• « MusicOparc », from June 27 to July 26, Parc Decesari, Rosny-sous-Bois

Within the Decesari landscaped garden, a diversified music programme has been planned for the 5th edition of 2009 MusicOparc festival. Martin Solveig, well known from electronic music lovers, is the top billing artist of this festival. Other groups will be playing, such as Israel Vibration (reggae music) and even more acoustic sessions in the park’s green theatre with the performances of Cordoba Reunion and Social Fusion.

• « European Young Talents Festival », from July 10 to 30, Soubise Hotel and Parks, Paris III

For the 9th edition of the festival, the chosen theme this year is « classical music, from Joseph Hydn to Karol Beffa ». As usual, the European Young Talents festival confirms its postion, i.e. Inviting 50 young european musicians , many of whom are the most gifted of their generation and coming from Europe or the world’s most prestigious school academies.

• « Rock en Seine », from August 28 to 30, Saint-Cloud

In order to end August’s last weekend, the Rock en Seine festival, which brings together every year the very best of international pop-rock music, presents for its 7th edition a music programme full of famous artists, such as Oasis, Bloc Party or Amy MacDonald, but also original new bands like Sliimy, Klaxons, etc. For three entire days, about 15 artists per day will play on the 3 stages of the Saint-Cloud gardens.

With the arrival of summer, Paris becomes a thoroughly outdoor capital. There are many ways to discover the city : either walking, on a bike or on the water. Every year, the third arrondissement city hall of Paris organises a festival with concerts, dances, openair cinema (classic films as well as more recent ones). Locals and tourists mingle in a festive atmosphere.

• July 14^th : French National Holiday parade

For French people and foreigners, the July 14 military parade is always reminded as the most solemn and spectacular event they can attend along the Champs-Elysées.

• From June to July : « Silhouette » Short-Film Festival

This week-long short-film festival on the heights of the Buttes-Chaumont park features a varied programme of high-quality French and international films.

• In July : «Théatre de verdure», Theatre Festival in the Shakespeare’s Garden

A park setting is well chosen one for performances of Shakespeare plays. Until the end of September, this outdoor « theatre » will stage a series of plays by Molière, Maurice Maeterlinck, Alfred de Musset and Victor Hugo – not forgetting works by the Bard himself, of course.

• From 15/07 to 16/08 : Open-air Cinema

Every summer for more than fifteen years, the La Villette outdoor festival offers a selection of films to be enjoyed outside on the grass in the park. For extra comfort, you can even hire a deckchair and a blanket. A different theme is chosen each year. What surprises will 2009 have in store?

• From mid-July to mid-August : « Paris quartier d’été »
